Beets
Second planting of beets are in. I am already eating some greens from the first planting. Weather is perfect for beets…coolish nights and sunny days. Interplanting with radish helps to find the row before seeds sprout.
Picked the first of this year’s fruits. Delicious! Now every day I will pick, dehydrate for storage, sell to neighbors, or eat fresh.
I love this time of evening: the birds are flitting off to their night perches, the sun is down, the sunset has faded, the air is cool and refreshing, the fireflies are flashing about, — all is peaceful and quiet. I take a minute to sit in the lawn chair by the burn pit, breathe…
Spent most of the morning hands-and-knees weeding the winter beans. They are now 6 inches tall. Then the massive thunderstorm hit. No damage. And I enjoyed relaxing a bit while watching its fury from the dry-ness of my porch.
