Shallots
Tried the shallots this year, but am very disappointed. They are plentiful, but soooo small. It seems to take forever to prepare them for use. The flavor is good, but so tiny will not plant them again.
Blueberries are coming on strong now. And they are huge! Some as big as a dime. But then, I have been faithfully watering them if it doesn’t rain. Made blueberry jam today. It is delicious!
Picked the first of this year’s fruits. Delicious! Now every day I will pick, dehydrate for storage, sell to neighbors, or eat fresh.
I did not participate!!! I did see that the animal corn is up. And the 7 butternut, too. I plant these in between the corn rows to run along the ground and keep weeds down. By the time I harvest the corn, the squash will be ready, too.
No, I didn’t plant any pumpkins…they just sprouted by themselves and are huge! They are putting out only male flowers now, just to entice the bees to visit. The blossoms are edible: pick the open blossoms, remove the pollen, wash gently with water, fill with stuffing mix, and bake 15 min. Delicious.
