The first animal corn was planted today because the dogwood is in blossom and the maple tree’s leaves are the size of a squirrel’s foot. Here in Virginia, that is a sure time to be safe from frosts and warm and wet enough for corn to sprout.
Remember that little 3 inch baby that came up randomly? Well, it has gotten big. At least 12 inches across. That may sound good, but it is turning orange already. That is bad. It is 2 months early so will probably rot before pumpkin decorating season. Chickens will feast!
Yes, that is how high the animal corn has gotten. I am under the hat at 5 foot 4 and the corn is at least 6 feet tall. Wow. It is only June.
